“YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS” I yelled, it was the end of my last day of school ever. I was going to a beach party with my best friends and boyfriend, I was so excited. I was getting ready to leave and that’s when I got the phone call from my mum saying that I was accepted into the New South Wales acting program! I was so excited! I couldn't believe that they accepted me! The only problem was that I was going to be away from my family and friends that lived in a whole other state.
And that’s when it hit me… Tonight was the last time I was going to see my friends until the holidays, I was leaving the next day for Uni. I suddenly wasn’t so excited for it, I continued to get ready for the party and left a little later.
Once I got to the party, we jammed to some music from the 80s and 90s and had a fun time. We decided to play truth or dare, I got thrown in the water, it was FREEZING because it was about 8pm! Liv tipped water on Miranda’s head and she ran after her for 10 minutes straight!
Then it was my turn. “So, Ash I have a truth for you,” said Miranda. “um ok I guess, what is it” I asked, then Miranda said something I was not prepared for and I knew it was either going to be a dream or a nightmare, “What’s happening with University for you?” she asked. “Um…. Well… Ok fine, I got accepted to the NSW acting program” I said.
It was quiet for a second. My boyfriend Harry was the first to say something. “Oh well congratulations,” he said. “Yeah,” said everyone, “Congrats.” I knew they were just saying that to make me feel better but to be honest it just made me feel worse.
“Hey ya know what, its ok that your going! We will still see you in the holidays!” Liv said. “Thanks” I replied, “but I still feel bad leaving you all.” Everyone looked around the circle we had formed “no worries, we will be fine, we will make sure to face time every Friday and weekends and we will text every day!” said Miranda “Yeah!” everyone agreed. “Aww thanks guys, love you all” I said, because it was true, they were the best friends I could ever ask for!
Now I just had to talk to my whole family, hopefully they will be as supportive as my friends. It was around 9pm when we left the beach to go home. I made a quick stop at my apartment to eat dinner then I went to my family’s house and everyone came running to the door before I could even say “hey,” my mum had apparently already told the rest of my family and having only younger siblings, they still didn’t have a filter between there minds and mouth, wherever they thought, they said.
All the kids grabbed my leg and cried, telling me not to leave. I gave all 5 of them hugs one by one and told them everything would be fine. I comforted them then put them to bed. I went over to go talk to mum and dad; mum was crying but dad seemed pretty calm. To be fair mum cries every time I leave, for example, when I got my apartment, when I went on a trip to Fiji for school and even when I went to Bali for only 1 week she cried, so I was ok with it, I knew how to comfort her by now. Once she was ok, I talked to my dad, he did admit he was a bit worried for me, as two years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It was scary, but I am ok, it is still worrying but I’m sure I’ll be fine in NSW, my parents came to my apartment to help me pack and my Grandma stayed with the kids. We packed everything, and I put my health record binder with my carry-on luggage for the plane ride to NSW. My mum was shocked when she saw that. “Is that your health record binder?” she asked, “yeah mum, just in case I need it.” Mum was so happy, because I never use to think that binder was worth a second thought, I never wanted to have anything to do with it. I don’t know why I had the urge to take it but I did. I ended up going to sleep at 3am because I had so much to pack up. In the morning I went and said goodbye to my friends and family and left on the plane at 2 pm.
It’s now the first day of the holidays, I’m back home, I went to go see my family then I rushed to see my friends. I gave them all hugs and we had a great time catching each other up on what has happened over the first couple of months of Uni.
After seeing my friends, I went to my boyfriend’s apartment and he had a massive surprise for me, some how all my friends got there first, and they threw a welcome home party for me! It was so sweet, even my family was there. I will never forget it that’s for sure!
